need a good 8" for 1.1 net....

Postby kevox » Thu Sep 18, 2008 3:19 pm

I JUST finished a very well braced enclosure with a flared port and a few other features to maximize the performance of the Audiobahn AW800Q woofer I've had collecting dust the last couple months and my stupid friend goes and blows it up the first day I put it in my sis' car!!! So now I have this sweet box that houses a sub that is....extinct. Seriously, try finding one FS anywhere on the net, I was only able to find one place that did not say it was out of stock - but they wanted $85 + shipping for it....I have a hard time spending that kinda money on a good but not great 8" so I'm now seeking YOUR HELP.

I'd like to get a different 8" that will rock in 1.1 net tuned to 33hz with 12.5 sq. inches of port area....

I know the 8w7 should work superwell in this enclosure but that is too pricey...unfortunately the RE 8's require an enclosure half this size so one of those is out of hte question too....

This box will be going in my sis' car permanently so I really just want to find something to go in it rather than buy a new sub and build a new box...

that is a HUGE box for an 8!..... I did dual TB 740C 8's in 1.2cu @ 28hz.

TB would prolly work tho... My box was a bit undersized (on purpose) I seem to remember them being good a .75cuf... 1cuf might work... won't need much power

The Crystal CMP8 is supposed to be a hell of a driver too

Ya man I know for whatever reason both the 8" drivers I've owned in my past (this one and the CV VEGA 8") were both very large box woofers....the AB is recommended .75 minimum on up to 1.9 for "spl only" and the VEGA was recommended right at 1.25 net!! The other goal I had in mind when I designed this box was not to be a space saver (obviously!) but to be an impressively loud piece given such small cone area....and that it was while I heard it its first time in a car!! But it was murdered shortly thereafter and now the box rests near my bed beckoning to be re-awakened!

So you think the TB would do well in 1.1 net?

Oh ya and htat CMP8 has been on my mind ever since the Great 8" Challenge trust me!! They're just about as rare as the AW800Q though is the problem....but I'd totally get one of those suckers if someone showed me where!

I think the TB8 would prolly be fine.... you'd have a lot of low end response. If you look at the TB it has good mechanical throw. Lots of room to breath. however, it is more of a small box woofer due to its relatively low QTS & Vas for an 8" woofer. Most entry level subs are designed to be big box woofers. So, If you look at an entry level kicker, fosgate, or whatever it'll prolly work perfectly fine.

The TB8's... i'd say go with em... but i'd worry about giving them more than 100rms each due to the big box size.

I was just looking up 8's on ebay and came across the L5...a sub I've always wanted to experiment with ever since I heard a pair of the 10's a couple years back that blew me away....

and then I remembered that Kicker's naturally love larger boxes anyway so, granted i modify the mounting hole, would the 8L5 not be a perfect companion for this setup?!! It's only $70 shipped brand new....

i dunno... go to kicker's site and see what they recommend for a box size. I've never messed with them. Tangband makes a 3" square midbass.... could run 12 or so of those too.. hehehe

lol that'd be interesting....I did go to Kicker's site thought and they recommended I think it was .65 for a "street performer" and up to 1.0 for an SPL/Deep Bass setup so I think it'll enjoy the air space....it seems liek the best candidate that will also take more than 100w as well....

Plus I've always wanted to mess with an 8L5 and 8L7 so this is a good start:)

Cause that would require heavy modification of the baffle and I think I wouldhave to remove one of the interior braces...
