Emachine not compatible w/DVD burner?

Postby newguy » Wed Jun 21, 2006 3:04 pm

I have a 2.5yo EMachines 2.5ghz desktop and recently picked up a Pioneer DVR 710 internal DVD burner to add to the computer.

However, I found that the large 4 pin power connector and small white 4 pin audio connector that run from the factory CD burner cable do not fit the new burner.

I called Best Buy and explained the situation and the sales person and Geek Squad girl didn't know why it wasn't compatible....

Have connections changed on computers in the last few years or something? They didn't seem to offer any other cable/connections for the computer/burner..

Ok, scratch that....figured out a sound card is needed for hookup to the burner's audio port....

However, the player came w/Nero 6 and will not play any DVDs unless I 'purchase' the MPEG-2 plug in...

I can play them using RealPlayer though.....is Nero worth using? I don't care to buy any program upgrade that came w/the player....

You can play DVD's using WMP. Just get a codec pack and you should be good.

I just don't understand why the player comes w/the Nero 6 'OEM suite' and then refuses to play DVDs, which is obviously the reason for the player in the first plaec....

The program is called Nero Showcase or something like that......bugs me.....

I didn't know that Nero now packages a "player" with their program.
