Need a little Hom audio help

Postby todd.brust » Mon Nov 20, 2006 10:12 pm

I have a Denon DRA-635r, and the volume knob is it worth fixing?
There he goes, one of god's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live... too rare to die.

Crack the thing open and figure out what's in there first in terms of components, is it just a simple potentiometer...etc....

Does the remote still work? If the remote works, it's probably the hardware between the knob and the micro/DSP. If so, and it just stopped working suddenly, it's likely a new volume control will fix it. It could be either a rotary encoder or a pot; all I've seen have had rotary encoders but it could be either. That's a $3-4 part even at the inflated pricing of replacement parts. If you're not comfortable a local shop should be able to tell you. IMO, it's definitely worth fixing as long as the remote can change volume as cost and time expenditure should be minimal.
